Sparky and a 2nd Grade Delinquent

So I've finished up my job at the church - and it was extrememly freeing to not be there at all this last weekend!! We didn't even take dd to cheerleading on Saturday - instead we went to a foster mom's home and looked at her 8 little furry babies to decide which one we wanted to adopt.

We ended up adopting Sparky Dog! He's been so much fun and he's quite the character. It's only been 3 days but we've all fallen in love with him. I don't know how to post pictures on here or I would. I just got a cute one of him sleeping next to dd while she does her homework on the floor. He's part poodle and part some kind of terrier - he's really cute!

Today my 2nd grader brought home a citation. That is BIG trouble at the elementary level. Do you know why she got it? Because she refused to do any work in class today - she stayed in at recess and still got nothing done. So now she has detention tomorrow. Today she is banished to the house and must work on school work all afternoon as punishment for doing nothing at school.

She's been pretending to know nothing at school - I'm so at a loss about what to do about it. The teacher thinks I'm an idiot who doesn't know her child or is in denial about how stupid her kid is. I don't know how to convince him how smart she is! And she's not willing to prove it to him. Conferences aren't for another 3 weeks, and until then I guess he'll just keep thinking she's the stupidest kid in the class. :-(

I swear this kid will be the death of me. I was the "get everything done right away, smart, responsible child" - why can't I have at least ONE of those!!! Instead I've got these two children - one of whom is extremely irresponsible and has been lying through his teeth to me, and the other who just acts like it doesn't matter in the slightest if she's considered the stupidest kid in the class. *sigh*

Days like today are NO fun being the Mom - spending hours riding on them about doing their homework wears on a person. *double sigh*
