2 down, 178 to go
At least I think that's the count. I believe they have "180 days of instruction" - at least I remember reading that somewhere.
So the first two days are done. DS (4th grade) is having a great week. He's got the same teacher as he had for 3rd so things are humming along with him already. He was dreading school but I think he's remembering now that it's fun. He seems more confident this year. The teacher told me today he's doing really really well - his penmanship has improved by a thousand fold. She appreciated that he remembered how to write a complete sentence since she's got a bunch of kids who seem to have forgotten!! DS reads vocariously so no problems forming sentences for him.
DD started K. The first day was a little shaky. She wasn't thrilled that I left her but she didn't cry and carry on - thank goodness!! But when I went to pick her up she was crying and holding onto the teacher's leg. :-( I finally got that a boy said something to make her mad. But the big show was because the Child Psychologist was in the room checking on the kids and tried to get involved. BIG mistake. DD doesn't like people getting involved in her business. So the psych said she realized she made it worse. I told her yea, it's better to back off and give her her space. So I was worried about day 2 of K after that eventful end to day 1.
I decided to do what all parents do when they're at a loss of what to do - use bribery!! Wild Rivers season pass holders get into Legoland free this month. So I told DD if she could go to school for 7 days without crying and be happy we'll go to Legoland. The teacher said "she had a great day today!" when I picked her up. This first thing out of dd's mouth was "I didn't cry, can we go to Legoland?" Who says bribery isn't an acceptable form of parenting??
Now we're gearing up for the big golden birthday party tomorrow. We've got everything ready - other than needing to make the cupcakes. I still can't believe my baby is going to K and is 5!!!!
Time flies!
