I told you he was smart!

I had my parent teacher conference this morning with DS's teacher. First words out of her mouth "let me get you the paperwork for GATE testing, he's a perfect candidate for the program." I just chuckled. I know he's smart! Didn't I tell you all that a few posts down? ;-)

She told me how wonderfully he's doing and how much he adds to the classroom. She says he has a lot of knowledge to share and he adds a lot to their discussions. He will be in the top reading group when she gets groups going and she'll give him some more challenging math to do.

He really is a great kid. I'm trying to remember to remind myself of that often. He just loves life so much and enjoys as much of it as he can. I find if I keep telling myself all of his great qualities I focus on them much more and as a result I am much more patient and a better Mom!

DH still hasn't said "I told you so" about putting DS back at the same school and getting this great teacher - but I'm waiting for it! :-)

Family

So DS has been complaining that all of his troubles in life exist because he has a sister. Really, I know sisters can be a pain in the butt (trust me on this one - I've got 5 of them!), but they aren't the sole reason for anything that annoys you in life.

We had a talk on Friday night in the car about our family and that God put us together - HE chose to put the four of us together and make us a family and He doesn't make mistakes. And I'm not holding my breath for long term change but it seems at least for the weekend that ds realizes I have a valid point.

When we got home that night he read her a couple of stories, spent Saturday reading to her and actually playing with her, and was pretty nice to her today too compared to his usual attitude of contempt. I'm praying that his change in attitude is a permanent one!

It sure makes life much more pleasant when the kids at least TRY to be friends! Hey, I'm not expecting perfection - they're still siblings! - but a bit less animosity and a lot more love is nice!

When it rains it pours!

So I already was complaining about sniffs and coughs - this weekend I ended up with a bladder infection to top it off! Man I cannot catch a break for some reason. I'm exhausted and just want to feel like my happy energetic self. Right now I don't see her anywhere close by! :-(

And last night we were, for the second time in a month, treated to a lightning and thunder storm - very cool. I love the thunder and lightning and rain. We get thunder and lightning so rarely here in Cali. It made for a pleasant evening - I could sit and watch it all night. Today it's raining but no thunder or lightning by me - at least not yet!

*Sniff* *Sniff* *Cough* *Sniff*

Yep, that's what I sound like today and for the last two days. How is that fair? I want to be 100% healthy and energetic and feeling like myself! Hopefully soon!

Other than that not too much going on around here. We seem to finally be getting into the fall routine. Both kids are enjoying school and enjoying their teachers. I'm so happy about that.

I've been debating leaving my online groups. One I've been with for 8 years but they are just getting on my nerves - specifically one person who is the most outspoken and always has a negative comment to say about anything positive that might be going on in my life. I have just been reading here and there on that group. I haven't posted for more than 6 months - the longest I've EVER gone. Another Mom asked about me recently and this particular out spoken Mom said where I was and what I was doing! That really bugged me - how can you speak for a person when you haven't spoken TO that person? She homeschools her kids and is rather self righteous about it.

Why are so many homeschooling parents that way about it? Honestly, it does not make you or your kids better for you to teach them at home. And just because you're not sending your kids to school doesn't mean I'm not teaching mine at home! I can't tell you the number of science experiments, or museums, or stamp collecting, or researching or other things I have done with my kids all in the name of "enriching their lives." Homeschoolers do the same things and act like they are the only ones doing things with their kids and they're better because they're doing it for "school." I read a blog from a homeschooling Mom recently talking about a spider in their yard they named Charlotte and were checking on everyday. At the end of her tale of the spider she says "only in a homeschooling family." Um, no, sorry - some of us sending our kids to public school have done the SAME thing! You don't have exclusive right to fun creative learning because your kids don't go to a school and sit in a classroom!

Sorry, I got off on a little rant about homeschooling there. Honestly I do NOT have a problem if you choose to homeschool your child but quit acting like you're better than me because of your choice! I'm not better than you because my kids go to public school. OK - done with that!

My other group that I've been with for about 3 years has started to irritate me a bit too - mostly again one particular person who always has the "right" answer and makes me feel like I'm never right and that I'm not as smart and that she is superior. I don't know if she means to make people feel that way or not but it's the way I perceive it. Maybe now that I've got enough "real life" friends it's time to drop the cyber ones.

It's the few women left in the groups who don't annoy me that have made it so I haven't left yet. Time will tell what happens I guess.

Well, I came to vent about my stuffed up nose and went way off on a tangent! Hey, it's my blog and I can vent if I want to, vent if I want to, you'd vent to if it happened to you, dun da dun da dah!

Long time no see!

Wow, it's been a while since I blogged anything.

Things are pretty good around here. I don't remember if I blogged an "I told you so" post but if I didn't, I should have. Not for me - for my dh. He insisted on keeping ds at the school he's at - much to my dismay, I wanted to move him to a private school. But dh was right - the teacher we have at the public school this year is better than any option we thought we had. So dh hasn't said it yet; well, he did say "have a little faith" but he hasn't said "I told you so!" Even though he really deserves to say it! I'm just glad I didn't argue with him more about it! ;-)

I am glad I argued about moving dd though because she is much better off where she is now and it's a lot more convenient!

I don't have too much else to say for now - oh yea, the teacher at church who said my kid was being bad - I think she's just unreasonable and now I'm taking everything she says with a grain of salt. And still feeling guilty for chewing out ds when he really didn't deserve it.

Now I'm dealing with lying - if there's anything I hate worse in this world it's a liar. And he's become one and now I have to figure out how to make it stop. I have a liar for a father - I don't want a liar for a son!
